How to Install an IPTV App Safely

Install IPTV apps from official stores, check developers and permissions, avoid unknown downloads and what to do if an app behaves strangely.

The player app is software on your device, so the same caution applies as with any app.

Prefer the official store

Use the Amazon Appstore, Google Play, the Apple App Store or the store on your TV. These stores check apps before listing them, which reduces risk.

Check before you tap install

  • Developer name and website.
  • Number of downloads and recent reviews.
  • Date of the last update.
  • Permissions requested: a video player does not need your contacts.

Unknown downloads

If an app is not in a store, ask us to explain exactly why and which file to use before you do anything. Do not follow links from random messages or social media posts.

A five minute safety routine

Before you press install, open the listing, read the three most recent reviews and look at the developer's other apps. Reviews that mention hidden charges, constant adverts or the app stopping working are a warning. Reviews from a long time ago may no longer reflect the current version.

After installing, deny any permission that is unrelated to video, such as contacts or location. Most apps work fine without them.

If you already installed something doubtful

Uninstall it, restart the device and change any password you typed into it. Then run a security scan on a phone or computer, or reset a streaming stick if it behaves oddly. Tell support what happened so that they can advise.

After installing

Open the app, sign in, and watch how it behaves. If it floods you with pop-ups, asks for odd permissions or slows the device, uninstall it. Read How to Spot IPTV Scams and Pay Safely for wider safety habits.
