Child Safety and Streaming at Home
How to keep children safer when your home uses streaming services: profiles, PIN codes, device settings and conversations about what they see.
Technology can help, but your involvement matters most.
Set up the basics
- Use separate profiles and PINs on devices.
- Lock app installs and purchases behind a PIN.
- Use parental controls where apps offer them.
Know the limits
No filter is perfect. Channel names and categories can be misleading, so check what a service actually contains. See Parental Controls in IPTV Apps.
Talk to children
Explain what to do if they see something upsetting: close it and tell you, without fear of being punished.
A family agreement
Agree simple rules: which rooms devices can be used in, when screens go off and what to do if something upsets them. Children respond better to rules they helped to write.
Review settings after any app or device update, because updates can reset them.
Keep devices in shared spaces
Where possible, keep screens in family rooms rather than behind closed doors.
